When Jesus was born, an angel appeared to the shepherds, telling them a "Saviour has been born, He is the Messiah, the Lord". A Saviour – someone that will rescue us from sins; a deliverer, a defender. The Messiah – the anointed one, a Redeemer that will purchase our freedom with his own flesh and blood. The Lord – a ruler, meaning all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to him.

Because a Saviour was born in Bethlehem – a Saviour, a deliverer.

God became human to come save humanity. And that’s the good news. We have a God that so loved us that he gave his one and only son, so that whoever believes in him may not perish but will have eternal life.

3. Great Joy
The good news about the birth of our Saviour will cause us great joy. No matter what we walk through in life - sickness, loss, heartache - we rest in the fact that our Redeemer lives. Our joy is Jesus. Our joy is what Jesus came to do for us. This is our joy of Christmas.
