The mess and the process.
He was born in a manger. (Luke 2:7)
He was circumcised the eighth day. (Luke 2:21)
He was presented in the temple.
He was circumcised the eighth day. (Luke 2:21)
He was presented in the temple.
His parents forgot Him in Jerusalem when He was 12 years old.
We then don’t hear anything about Jesus until He is 30 years old.
We then don’t hear anything about Jesus until He is 30 years old.
We must steward the purposes of God in our life.
The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25).
God is more interested in significance than success.

Dig Deeper:
1. What are you most excited about this Christmas?
2. God is with us! He is never far off, disconnected, or disinterested. How does this shape your view of Him?
3. We all experience “the mess” and “the process” in our lives. What would you consider “the mess” part of your life…something that is unexpected and unwelcome currently? What about “the process”…the routine parts of your life?
4. Would you describe this time of year as “crazy” or “busy”? Why or why not? Do you think the first Christmas was this way, too? Why or why not?
5. Describe a messy time in your life that made you reach out to God even more than usual. What makes us look to Him even more during those times than in the everyday, ordinary moments of life?
6. Read Luke 2:21-24. What stands out to you in this passage?
7. Why did God choose to come to earth as an infant that could not care for himself and have to grow up as we do?
8. What does the word “steward” mean? What were Mary and Joseph invited to care for as Jesus’s parents?
9. What has God placed in your life that you are invited to care for and to cultivate?
10. What do others who are close to you say that you are good at? Have you ever taken a spiritual gifts test? If so, what are they?
11. Read Matthew 25: 14-30. Why doesn’t God micromanage us as His children? What is the difference between micromanaging and entrusting?
12. Read 1 Peter 4:10. What is a gift? What gifts have you received for God? How are you to use it to serve those around you?
13. What is the difference between significance and success?
14. Why is God more interested in significance than success? Do we measure our worth the same way? Why or why not?
15. What can you do this Christmas season to help steward the purposes of God in your life?
Live It Out:
What has God entrusted to you? We are asked to be good stewards of whatever God has entrusted to us, and to use it to serve the people around us. It may very well go unnoticed by many, but it will never go unnoticed by God. This Christmas season, and into the new year, use the gifts God has entrusted to you to serve those around you.
