How do we move from languishing to flourishing?

1 - Redefine the Meaning of Hope.

Yakhal (Hebrew): To wait for.
Qavah (Hebrew): To wait for, but it comes from the root word for a cord.

Hope is a rope.

Hope is our confident expectation as we wait in the tension.

2 - Replace the Object of Hope.

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all arguments. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

Hebrews 6:13-19

3 - Rest in the Ultimate Hope

Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,
like the roar of rushing waters and
like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.”
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added,
“These are the true words of God.”
