There’s nothing quite like the Christmas story. And at the heart it’s a story that introduces something incredible, bright and WONDER-FILLED — even though it makes its entrance into a dark moment in history…after 400 years of God’s silence…and everything was/is certainly not wonderful.
Then or now.
Truth:
Everything is nostalgic about this season, but not everything is neat.
There’s much brightness around this season, but not all is beautiful.
Everything is sprinkled with wonder - but not everything is wonderful.

Takeaway:
For us to grow in the wonder of God, things don’t have to be completely wonderful.
For us to grow in the wonder of God, things don’t have to be completely wonderful.
When Jesus was born - all was not merry and bright. Christmas is a gift - not because it’s trouble free. But because it’s God introducing a new reality.
Christmas reminds us:
Jesus came in the midst of a mess and he’s able to enter into the messes with you or around you. It’s familiar territory for him.
The good news of Christmas is: Jesus came into broken world filled with broken people and he doesn’t turn away.

Intentionally & creatively make:
the celebration of Christmas > the obligations of Christmas
the celebration of Christmas > the obligations of Christmas
God’s WONDER can refresh us, even when things aren’t completely wonderful.
Quote:
Advent is the season that, when properly understood, does not flinch from the darkness that stalks us all in this world. Advent begins in the dark and moves toward the light.
-Fleming Rutledge
Our prayer for you:
Friend, may God expand your wonder of Him this season…
How?
-intentional times in the Scriptures
-maybe a prayer walk at sunset
-engage in some Christmas traditions with people (be fully present)
-unplug (disconnect from technology for a bit) connect with God
-practice sabbath
-seek out a way to serve someone around you everyday
