Prophecy is proclaiming the truth of God with a clear call to repentance and obedience.
Hosea 11:1 (ESV) - When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
Exodus 4:22–23 (ESV) - Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son, 23and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.’ ”

Matthew 2:13–15 (ESV) - Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Matthew 2:19–21 (ESV) - But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” 21And he rose and took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel.
What does fulfilled prophecy teach us about God?

Is God in control? Is God sovereign?

Sovereignty = God ordains everything

Ordains = everything is under the rule of God, His authority – God has established all things. Nothing is by chance or random.
God’s determined will – what God causes.

God’s permissive will (revealed will) – what God permits.
Deuteronomy 8:2 (ESV) - And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

Prophecy demonstrates that God sovereignly reigns while we actively live and wait.
