"A Keeper who Keeps His Promise" Sermon Questions
1. Can 2-3 of you in your community group briefly share when you came to know the forgiveness of your sins in Christ and what that was like for you?
2. The Genesis 12:1-3 passage tells Abram that he was to be a blessing. How was he and how are we as Christians to be a blessing? How did Jesus view His purpose in coming? See Matthew 20:28 What hinders you from living this out?
3. Moses wrote Genesis to the Israelites wandering in the wilderness. How might this story of Abram have been an encouragement to them? Why does this chapter begin with God identifying Himself to Abram as a shield and reward? What was Abram’s spiritual condition, and why?
4. Genesis 15:6 is a verse quoted four times in the New Testament. Where do you find these quotes and how are they used? Was Abram counted righteous by his works or faith? How do we know?
5. Genesis 15:8 is a question Abram asks the Lord. Was it a fair question? Can we ask such a question of the Lord? Was Abram sinning? Can you share with your community group the questions you are asking of the Lord? How do we get our answers?
6. How does God answer Abram’s question? What is so dramatic about it? We often refer to this chapter to as one of the most important chapters in the whole Bible. One theologian goes so far as to say that if he could only have one chapter in the whole Bible this would be the one. Why would he say such a thing and not want some chapter in the New Testament like John 15 or Romans 4?
7. If God saved you but then decided to just give up on you, could He even do that? Why or why not? Is it even possible for God to justify you and then erase it?
