"Never Again" Sermon Questions
1. What aspect of this week's sermon text (Gen 8:20-9:1, 7-17) can make many people uncomfortable? Why do you think that is?
2. Did anything from the sermon text or sermon surprise you? If so, what about it was surprising?
3. Read Mt 24:37-42. Jesus says that his second advent will be like it was in the days of Noah. How does the flood account help us to interpret Jesus' teaching about who will be swept away and who will be left when he returns? Who was swept away during the flood? Who was left? How does Jesus' teaching about his return in this text differ from what is commonly taught today?
4. Why do we want to minimize the teaching of Gen 8:21 and 6:5? What would we prefer for it to say? How might these verses shape our relationships?
5. How does this quote strike you, "Where the dualist seeks salvation from the world, the Noahic covenant suggests that the world must be saved from man." (Michael Williams). Why?
6. What reasons do many Christians have for being reluctant to focus more on caring for creation? How can the Christian's failure to embrace God's redemption of the created world negatively impact evangelism?
7. What are some practical things that Christians can do to reflect God's covenant promise to redeem the physical world?
