From the Pastor Desk

“THE THRONE OF GRACE”
(Hebrews 4:16)

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

As believers, we have the privilege of approaching God before “The Throne Of Grace.” In this world, most cannot have direct contact with our world leaders. For example, only a selective group is entitled to have direct contact with the president of the United States.

Unlike world leaders, God makes Himself available to all mankind, especially to Christians. We are exhorted to approach “The Throne Of Grace” with boldness. When we do this, we will experience mercy and grace to help us in our time of need.

Regarding all of our concerns, needs, and problems, we should present them to God before “The Throne Of Grace.” This is where we can be appositely helped.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

“St. John exists, as A Kingdom Building Church in two communities,
to Evangelize sinners and Equip saints,
who are Edifying and Enjoying one another,
to Exalt the SAVIOR” (Mt. 28:18-20).

LET’S HAVE A GOOD TIME!

We are so blessed to approach the conclusion of another month (November) and the beginning of a new month (December), so we should demonstrate our gratitude to God. One of the ways we can show how appreciative we are to Him is by worshipping Him in Spirit and truth.

“Let’s Have A Good Time” at St. John this upcoming Sunday (December 3, 2023) at the North Campus (9:00 a.m.) and/or South Campus (11:00 a.m.). I am scheduled to preach, and our Sanctuary Choir is scheduled to sing in both morning Worship Celebrations. Come and inspire others to worship with us.

BIRTHDAYS

If your birthday is in December, we plan to acknowledge all December birthdays in our morning Worship Celebrations this Sunday(December 3, 2023). Thus, please be on time.

THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Lord’s Supper is another Ordinance of the Church. People who are saved and baptized should partake in Holy Communion as often as their church offers it. When Jesus was in the upper room with his disciples, he commanded believers to participate in the Lord’s Supper often in remembrance of him (1 Cor. 11:24-25). In this post-pandemic era, many churches are not serving the Eucharist the way they did in the past. Some churches, like St. John, are effectively experiencing the Lord’s Supper online (which we plan to continue to do until further notice).

Although no substitution is as effective as in-person, the tentative way that we are doing it online is spiritual, timely, convenient, and safe. Therefore, for the sake of Christ and our souls, let’s not make excuses (due mainly to our preference of the past) for not partaking in Holy Communion online. I look forward to a great time in the Lord with each of you this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. To participate online, each believer will need bread or a cracker and grape juice (or something similar). For more details, please visit our website at sjmbc.org.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Intercessory Prayer is when believers pray on behalf of others. James 5:16b says: “Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” When believers pray for one another, people are blessed. For example, Peter was delivered from prison because the church prayed incessantly to God on his behalf (Acts 12:5-17). Because God answers prayer, please pray daily for others and the following:

St. John Missionary Baptist Church: Ask God to grow our congregation spiritually, numerically, and financially. Also, pray to Godregarding our Building Project, and intercede on behalf of parishioners who are shut in with COVID.

“TO OUR ONE AND ONLY LOVE”

A teenage boy was buying an expensive bracelet to surprise his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day. The jeweler asked: “Would you like your girlfriend’s name engraved on it?”

The boy thought for a moment, grinned, then answered: “No, instead engrave: ‘To my one and only love.’” The jeweler smiled and said: “Yes sir, how very romantic of you.”

The boy retorted with a glint in his eye: “Not exactly romantic, but very practical. This way, if we break up, I can use it again.”

When we bring our tithes and offerings to the Lord, we should be cognizant that we are making a presentation “To Our One And Only Love.” Simply put, the Lord is our one and only love. Unlike the teenage boy who purchased an expensive bracelet for his girlfriend, our relationship with God is unbreakable because it is eternal (Jn. 3:16).

Since we give our tithes and offerings “To Our One And Only Love,” we should be faithful stewards of tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:10 reads: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Believers please God by faithfully and generously giving Him tithes and offerings. Tithing is giving to God 10% of our gross income/increase (which belongs to God), and the remaining 90% is ours to utilize wisely. Our offerings are what God inspires us to give from the remaining 90% which is in addition to our tithes. Our tithes and offerings should be set aside before paying anything else (first
fruits).

At St. John, we give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by
mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or
South Campus. We also give online through our website (sjmbc.org).

MEMORANDUM

Our Worship Celebrations: We have two in-person Worship Celebrations on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (the North Campus) and 11:00 a.m.(the South Campus). Also, our virtual audience is proliferating. Let’s continue to share with others how they can view our Worship Celebrations via live streaming (YouTube) or hear them via podcasts. For more information, you may visit our website at sjmbc.org.

Our Family Life Center: The city of Richmond has approved the revision of our design and granted us a building permit to build our Family Life Center. We can now proceed to the next step which is to negotiate the total cost of the project. Please pray daily asking God to direct us regarding our Family Life Center which will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, consisting of a gymnasium, weight room, and game room (mainly for kids). Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a commitment that we fulfilled, but some have not. May God bless each of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to contribute financially (in full or in installments) as soon as possible to this building project by choosing one of the following tiers:

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00
