Nehemiah Chapter 8

If we want to be fruitful trees, we must delight in in the law of the Lord.

If we want to have personal revival, we must place a priority on the Word of God!
When the Spirit of God is going to move, there is always unity of the people of God

Water for Washing in the Bible is picture of the Word of God that cleanses.

Ephesians 5: 25 He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.

Bring the Word of God
When the Spirit of God is going to move, He creates a hunger and thirst for the Word of God in the People of God
John Wycliffe’s version of the bible is the oldest version in English.

“alle ye that traueilen & teen chargid come to me & I schal fulfille you. Take ye my yok on you & lerne ye of me for I am mylde and meke in herte: and ye schulen finde rest to youre soulis/ for my yok is softe & my charge liyt.”

Wycliffe’s translation goes back 600 yrs, but between Moses writing and Ezra’s reading, a thousand years had elapsed.
The Word of God is working!

a. They cried when they read the word of the Lord.

b. 2 Timothy 3: 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

i. Their tears are evidence that the Word was working.
ii. Reproof and correction are not always fun, but necessary.
iii. This was not the time to cry, but time to rejoice!
The Joy of the Lord is our strength.

a. Reading the Law brought about the knowledge of their sin

b. Romans 3:20; “For by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

i. The Law can’t save us, it can only convict us that we need to be saved and lead us to Jesus Christ.

ii. Galatians 3: 24 Therefore the law was our [g]tutor to bring us to Christ,
