From the Pastor Desk

“WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS”

“And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.” (Matthew 24:6 - ESV).

We are witnessing “Wars And Rumors Of Wars” in various places. My heart is heavy whenever I think about how assailants are beheading babies and raping women.

As believers, we should pray for global peace because all lives matter. Even though many of us are disturbed hearing about “Wars And Rumors Of Wars,” Jesus does not want us to be troubled, for he foretold these misadventures as a sign that his return is soon. He said, “See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.”

Since “Wars And Rumors Of Wars” are current, let’s continue to pray for everyone living amid wars, especially for God’s chosen people (Israel). Remember, Psalm 122:6a says: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem….” More importantly, let’s prepare to be with Jesus when he returns because “Wars And Rumors Of Wars” are indicators that Jesus is coming back soon!

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

“St. John exists, as A Kingdom Building Church in two communities,
to Evangelize sinners and Equip saints,
who are Edifying and Enjoying one another,
to Exalt the SAVIOR” (Mt. 28:18-20).

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Join us for a delightful afternoon of fun and festivities (especially tailored for kids) at our 2023 Harvest Festival at the South Campus (parking lots 1 and 2) on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. We foresee this being a day filled with exciting activities that will bring smiles to your children’s faces. We have an array of games, crafts, and interactive entertainment planned to keep the young ones engaged and entertained throughout the event.

80TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY

God has blessed St. John to worship and serve as a congregation for 80 years, and our theme is as follows: “80 Years Of Praising And Serving A Faithful God” (Ps. 9:1-2). Special Worship Celebrations are scheduled on the 5th Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the North Campus (9:00 a.m.) and the South Campus (11:00 a.m.). Two guest pastors will preach (one at the North Campus and the other at the South Campus), and our Male Chorus will provide inspirational singing. Also, we will acknowledge parishioners who passed within the last year. Let’s attend and inspire others to attend. (If you have not contributed, each of us is asked to give $80.00for our Church Anniversary.)

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Intercessory Prayer is when believers pray on behalf of others. James 5:16b says: “Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” When believers pray for one another, people are blessed. For example, Peter was delivered from prison because the church prayed incessantly to God on his behalf (Acts 12:5-17). Because God answers prayer, please pray daily for others and the following:

St. John Missionary Baptist Church: Ask God to grow our congregation spiritually, numerically, and financially. Also, pray to God regarding our Building Project. Moreover, intercede on behalf of parishioners who are shut in with COVID.

“GIVE IT OR LOSE IT!”

A story is told about a woman whose name was Sadie. She served many years as a house parent for the children of missionaries in the Philippines, and she loved books. Though she gladly loaned out some, others she treasured in a footlocker under her bed. Once, in the quiet of the night, Sadie heard a faint troubling sound. After searching all around her room, she discovered that the noise was coming from her footlocker. When she opened it, she found nothing but an enormous pile of dust. All the books she had kept to herself had been lost to termites. What we give away, we keep. What we hoard, we lose. In essence, “Give It Or Lose It!”

Jesus taught us to give instead of hoarding. Luke 6:38 reads: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” When we are guilty of hoarding what God has blessed us with, we will eventually lose it; however, when we give at least a tenth of what God has blessed us with and share with others, we will maintain and gain more. In short, “Give It Or Lose It!”

Believers please God by faithfully and generously giving tithes and offerings to Him. Tithing is giving to God 10% of our gross income/increase (which belongs to God), and the remaining 90% is ours to utilize wisely. Our offerings are what God inspires us to give from the remaining 90% which is in addition to our tithes. Our tithes and offerings should be set aside before paying anything else (first fruits).

At St. John, we give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or South Campus edifice. We also give online through our website (sjmbc.org).

MEMORANDUM

Our Worship Celebrations: We have two in-person Worship Celebrations on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (the North Campus) and 11:00 a.m.(the South Campus). Also, our virtual audience is proliferating. Let’s continue to share with others how they can view our Worship Celebrations via live streaming (YouTube) or hear them via podcasts. For more information, you may visit our website at sjmbc.org.

Our Family Life Center: Please pray daily asking God to direct us regarding our Family Life Center. We have submitted a revised draft of our architectural design which hopefully will reduce the construction cost. Our Family Life Center will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, consisting of a gymnasium, game room (for the youth), and weight room. Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a pledge that we fulfilled, but some have not. May God bless each of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to :

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00

BIBLICAL RECAPITULATION

In this world, we have “Wars And Rumors Of Wars” (Matthew 24:6). Moreover, concerning our finances, we should be mindful to “Give It Or Lose It” (Luke 6:38).

May God bless and sustain each of us.

Your Beloved Servant In Christ,
