Old School - The Story of Gideon

Old School - The Story of Gideon

Some things stand the test of time. Some things that are vintage dramatically increase in value. Join us as we glance back into the Old Testament for some ancient stories that hold some timeless truth, principles, and practical insights for us in our apprenticeship after Jesus and God's best for us. We're looking into a few characters from the Old Testament to discover that these aren't just stories from long ago -- they hold ancient truths for us in our spiritual journey today. May you find your faith spurred on by their story.

Gideon:
Judges chapters 6-8 tell the story of Gideon - an unlikely hero and leader. He is one who God takes on a journey of transformation from fearful, hesitant and skeptical - to fearless, ready and full of faith.

This is the transformation track God wants to put each of us on...
Q) How big is your God - How Big is Christ in your life?
—how you answer that tells me a lot about how you you live life…what reality governs your life.

I’m convinced that the way we live is often a consequence of the size of our God.

-one of our primary problems in our lives is we forget reality — we are not convinced that we are absolutely safe in the hands of a fully competent, all knowing, ever present, utterly loving, infinitely BIG and powerful God.
The transformation God does within us from skeptical -to- trusting is really the story of Gideon in each of us.

God wants to take us on a journey of transformation.
It will always come in small steps & costly choices.

God continually wants to meet us at our point of fear, and bring us to points of growing our faith

God puts Gideon on a ‘transformation track’ - transforming him from fearful skeptical and hesitant to being fearless, faithful and ready…
Gideon wasn’t the only guy in the Bible who wrestled with fear. Pretty much all the giants of faith did—Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, Elijah, Peter, all the disciples--everybody did.

In fact, the single most common command in the Bible is, “Fear not.” Don’t be afraid.
When unhealthy fear grows, it begins to morph into different forms of Worry. Insecurity. Anxiety. Stress...and can paralyze us.

When you let fear run your life, it ruins your life.
Q) Why does God command us not to fear?

Because one of the greatest things that stops you from following Jesus closely and keeps you from fulfilling all that God dreams for you…Is FEAR!

Fear restricts the adventures of a Godly faith.

Quote:
Fear lives and rules in the heart of a believer who has forgotten God’s
sovereign authority and powerful grace is present with them, ALWAYS.
–Paul David Tripp
GOD is BIGGER than anything we face.

He can help you live with a real reality — a “God, You’re Big Enough” mindset.
God wants to take us on that journey of transformation. It will always come in small steps & costly choices.

God will put US on a transformation track - transforming us from fearful, skeptical and hesitant - to being fearless, faithful and ready…

Be at peace - God, loves to reassure us along the way in this journey of transformation…just like he did for Gideon.
