God's Word: Portable, Potable, Powerful
Locations & Times
First United Methodist Church of Lexington - Downtown
200 W High St, Lexington, KY 40507, USA
Sunday 8:30 AM
Sunday 11:00 AM
The Word of God is: divine revelation as seen in the Old and New Testaments which points toward the ultimate reality of the word in Jesus Christ.
The Word of God is:
1) Powerful
It is the light that overcomes our darkness. It purifies our lives so that we have the right to stand with God. No longer do we need to fear condemnation but are free to be joyfully obedient. It allows us to be upright in our relationships with each other. Frees us from competitive spirit into a compassion for the common good. And it makes us blameless
2) Potable
It’s power comes from it being potable which comes from the latin word potare meaning ‘to drink.’ It is good for not only outward cleansing but inward healing.
3) Portable
We get it by receiving. It cannot be earned by effort or purchased by resources; however it cannot be offered without cost; it does not find its way into our hearts by force. It must be received as a gift from others who share it with us. The best share it with the nurturing instincts of a mother and the paternal commitment of a father who both know no other way to love but unconditionally. They share by showing. They share by speaking. They share by patiently inviting, encouraging, urging never demanding, guilting, or manipulating.
