Main Idea: Because of the sinfulness of people and the imperfection of believers, there are times when Church Discipline is reasonable and necessary according to Scripture.

1. DEFINTION of the Word Discipline
A. Teaching, learning, to disciple
B. Training that corrects, mold, or perfects the mental faculties or morals
C. Punishment, to inflict pain or a penalty
D. A rule or system of rules which govern conduct or activity
Without question, the New Testament teaches discipline. Discipleship is impossible without it.

3. The NECESSITY of Discipline
A. Discipline is DESIGNED to make order and happiness possible
B. Discipline introduces the principle of SUBMISSION; our will submitted to the will of God
C. Discipline can keep SELFISHNESS and self-will at bay from bringing destruction to any home
D. Discipline EXERCISED in love offers individuals and a congregation security; and can prevent people from deception
E. Discipline guides the IMMATURE, can stabilize the weak, and can bring people towards maturity

A. RESTORATION—This is correction to bring about repentance which leads to restoration

B. Spiritual MEMBERS—Galatians 6:1 (NLT) 1Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
