The Parable of the Two Sons – Madhvi Ittoo

The Parable of the Two Sons – Madhvi Ittoo

In Luke 15, Jesus tells three parables: the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Lost Son, also known as the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The three parables tell us the story about how God actively seeks out the lost and rejoices when they come home. In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, we see the story of two brothers - one that goes and one that stays - and the heart of their father.

Sunday 9:30 AM

1. The Prodigal Son

He was someone that wanted an inheritance more than a relationship with his father. He went so far from his father, that the inheritance could not sustain him

- Life without God is lonely and desolate
- To depart or distance yourself from God is foolish
- Apart from God we have no good thing (Psalm 16:2)
2. The Older Brother

He was someone that had been with his father all his life. His words and actions reveal that his relationship with his father was based on works and merit.

- Our relationship with God is not based on our performance
- Whatever we do must be because we love God, not to earn anything
- Comparison will steal our joy
3. The Heart of the Father

He was a father like our Father God.

- God is patient with us and he does not treat us as our sin deserves
- He is compassionate and forgiving towards us
- He is a God that is for us and not against us
Remember:
As sons and daughters, God is always waiting for us with wide open arms. You are never too far gone for Him. Repent and come home.
