St. John Missionary Baptist Church (South Campus)

662 S 52nd St, Richmond, CA 94804, USA

Sunday 11:00 AM

Sermon Outline:

Sermonic Text: Job 14:14

Sermonic Title “It's Coming”

The Key Idea: Your Change Is Coming.

I. Be Godly.

II. Be Glad.

III. Be Grateful.
From the Pastor's Desk:

“A GREAT REWARD”
(Proverbs 22:4 - ESV)

“The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.”

Most people desire quality living. To have riches, honor, and life is a divine blessing for believers who are humble and fear God (reverence and give God undivided attention). Concisely, it is “A Great Reward.”

My beloved, we should not envy others whom God has blessed. God will bless us with riches, honor, and life when we faithfully exercise humility and fear of the Lord. Alternatively speaking, this is “A Great Reward” that our heavenly Father desires to bestow upon believers who are humble and fear Him.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

St. John exists, as “A Kingdom Building Church In Two Communities,”
to EVANGELIZE the Sinner and to EQUIP the Saints,
who are EDIFYING and ENJOYING one another,
in order to EXALT the Savior (Matt. 28:18-20).

UNPLUGGED SUNDAY

On this fourth Sunday, September 24th, we may dress comfortably and casually because it will be Unplugged Sunday. In both of our Worship Celebrations (North Campus at 9:00 a.m. and South Campus at 11:00 a.m.), God’s word will be proclaimed, and our Praise and Worship singers will be singing. Please plan to attend and invite others to attend, especially young people.

80TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY

God has blessed St. John to worship and serve as a congregation for almost 80 years. We are preparing to celebrate our 80th Church Anniversary in October. Please plan to participate and reserve the following dates: Banquet (Saturday, Oct. 7th at 7:00 p.m.), Revival (Thursday and Friday, October 19-20that 7:00 p.m. at the South Campus), and Anniversary Worship Celebrations (4th Sunday, October 22nd at 9:00 & 11:00 a.m.).

Furthermore, in addition to our regular tithes and offerings, we are asking each member to budget and contribute $200.00 ($100.00 for the Banquet, $20.00 for the Revival, and $80.00 for the Church Anniversary Offering). If we set aside $50.00 monthly, we will have the $200.00 needed. We can give for each event separately($100.00, $20.00, and $80.00) or give a total of $200.00 before or at the time of the events(except for the Banquet because tickets must be purchased beforehand).

Please cooperate and participate so that we can experience a phenomenal 80th Church Anniversary. Thank you. (More will be shared in the coming weeks.)

80TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY SOUVENIR BOOKLET

Our 80th Church Anniversary is a great time to build memories of the members and families that make up the collective congregation of our church. One of our goals is to feature the ministries of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, in a Souvenir Booklet with photos of each ministry. (Talk about Sunday Best!)

St. John Ministries will arrange a photo date for the ministry members, take photographs, and send them in by the deadline listed in the packet by the due date. This is a time-sensitive request, so your participation helps to enrich the present generations within the church, from nursery to Golden Agers and our various areas of service.

For more information, please get in touch with Sis. Judy Matthews at (510) 502-1449or matthewsjudy3@gmail.com.

CHILDREN MINISTRY

Our Children Ministry is operative every Sunday(including now 4th Sundays) at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of our South Campus. This is an awesome experience for children to worship together; therefore, let’s bring and inspire children to attend weekly.

GENERATION NOWWW

A Dave & Buster’s event is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023 (3:00-6:00 p.m.). The participation of children and teens is strongly encouraged. The participation of parents and others is also strongly encouraged to promote family togetherness. For more information, contact Min. Eric Frazier.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Intercessory Prayer is when believers pray on behalf of others. James 5:16b says: “Pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” When believers pray for one another, people are blessed. For example, Peter was delivered from prison because the church prayed incessantly to God on his behalf (Acts 12:5-17). Because God answers prayer, please pray daily for others and the following:

St. John Missionary Baptist Church: Ask God to grow our congregation spiritually, numerically, and financially. Also, pray to God regarding our Building Project. Moreover, intercede on behalf of parishioners who are shut in with COVID.

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do,
that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

HAPPY 67TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

We praise God for Bro. Alvin and Mother Mary Parker because they are scheduled to celebrate their 67th Anniversary on Saturday, September 23, 2023. May God continue to bless them to live well and witness many more Wedding Anniversaries.

When requested, we announce Birthdays for the following years: 75th, 80th, 85th, 90th, and every year thereafter.

When requested, we announce Wedding Anniversaries for the following years: 25th, 50th, 55th, 60th, and every year thereafter.

“IT’S TAINTED!”

A young child did not want to put his money on the offering plate one Sunday morning, so his mother decided to use some hurried creative reasoning with him. “You don’t want that money, honey,” she whispered in his ear. “Quick! Drop it on the plate. It’s tainted!” Horrified, the little boy obeyed. After a few seconds, he whispered, “But, Mommy, why was the money tainted? Was it dirty?” She replied: “Oh, no dear. It’s not really dirty. It just taints yours, and it taints mine. It’s God’s money.”

When God blesses us, He requires us to return to Him 10% of it (the practice of tithing). If we fail to give God the tenth which belongs to Him, the 10% becomes tainted. Malachi 3:9 reads: “Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.”

Haggai 1:6 reads: “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.” We cannot prosper using tainted money (using money that belongs to God).

Believers please God by faithfully and generously giving tithes and offerings to Him. Tithing is giving to God 10% of our gross income/increase (which belongs to God), and the remaining 90% is ours to utilize wisely. Our offerings are what God inspires us to give from the remaining 90% which is in addition to our tithes. Our tithes and offerings should be set aside before paying anything else (first fruits).

At St. John, we give in person during Sunday Morning Worship Celebrations, by mailing or dropping off our tithes and offerings at our Administration Building or South Campus edifice. We also give online through our website (sjmbc.org).

MEMORANDUM

Our Worship Celebrations: We have two in-person Worship Celebrations on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. (the North Campus) and 11:00 a.m.(the South Campus). Also, our virtual audience is proliferating. Let’s continue to share with others how they can view our Worship Celebrations via live streaming (YouTube) or hear them via podcasts. For more information, you may visit our website at sjmbc.org.

Our Family Life Center: Please pray daily asking God to direct us regarding our Family Life Center. We have submitted a revised draft of our architectural design which hopefully will reduce the construction cost. Our Family Life Center will be adjacent to our current sanctuary at the North Campus, consisting of a gymnasium, game room (for the youth), and weight room. Also, a parking lot will be across the street from this edifice.

Many of us made a pledge that we fulfilled, but some have not. May God bless each of us who have already fulfilled our pledge and others who have made “Building Fund” contributions. I encourage everyone (if you have not already done so) to :

1) $10,000.00 or more
2) $5,000.00 to $9,999.00
3) $1,000.00 to $4,999.00
4) $500.00 to $999.00

BIBLICAL RECAPITULATION

“A Great Reward” is riches, honor, and life when we faithfully exercise humility and fear of the Lord (Prov. 22:4 - ESV). Moreover, we must recognize that using money that belongs to God (10% of our gross income/increase) is corrupt. “It’s Tainted” (Hag. 1:6; Mal. 3:9).

May God bless and sustain each of us.

Your Beloved Servant In Christ,

Dr. Kevin B. Hall, Pastor
