Sunday Service The work on the wall stops because of strife among God’s people. If the enemy can’t stop the work from without, He will try from within. When God’s people fight one another they are neither fighting the real enemy nor getting God’s work done. How will Nehemiah respond? How can that help me respond to attacks from others?

Ch 4 ended on a sweet note of victory. The people of God doing the work of God,-despite obstacles. They worked with a sword in one hand and a trowel in the other, and they would not let their enemies stop them. They are unstoppable!!
When God’s people fight one another, they are neither fighting the real enemy nor getting God’s work done.
a. It was not their enemies cheating them but their own Jewish brothers. Not good! A violation of the Law of God regarding lending to another.

b. This issue probably existed before Nehemiah showed up but it’s time to deal with it.

c. God sends a famine. The Bible tells us that God is in control, even during times of scarcity. God’s desire in bringing famine upon Israel was to gain His people’s attention—through their stomachs.
If Nehemiah and his people did not find a way to do what God wanted them to do with their money and money problems, the work of God would be stopped — without a single arrow being fired by the enemies of God.
If we don’t handle our money with the right heart, and make financial decisions with an eye to eternity, we can make mistakes that will affect the work of God in our lives today and tomorrow.
1. He is angry.
2. He gives this serious thought.

a. Do you have a plan for what you’ll do when the emotion of anger begins to grip you?
i. Take a breath
ii. Keep quiet
iii. Say a prayer
iv. Recite scripture

Because if you don’t, you’ll say or do something you’ll regret later.
3. He reminds them of their shared slavery, bondage and freedom.
a. Will you now sell your own brothers?

4. He reminds them of their witness to the nations around them.
5. The power of the opposite spirit

a. Nehemiah responds with the opposite spirit.
