Nehemiah: The Call to the Wall. Hard Places and Hard Faces
Sunday Service If we attempt anything for God, we can expect opposition. It comes from many angles. Expect it. Advancement invites opposition. There will always be critics. The loudest boos come from the cheapest seats! Nehemiah shows us how to respond to “Hard Places and Hard Faces". Nehemiah 4:2. Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”

He was burdened by what he heard, now he’ll be broken by what he sees
1. Nehemiah could have focused on all that was right with Jerusalem.
2. We deceive ourselves if we only look to what is good.
“It is utter folly to refuse to believe that things are as bad as they really are. It is vital in any undertaking for God to know the worst, for whenever there is to be a wonderful movement of the Holy Spirit, it begins with someone like Nehemiah who was bold enough to look at facts, to diagnose them, and then to rise to the task.” (Redpath)

Whenever the work goes down, opposition shows up.
Advancement invites Opposition
1. How does Nehemiah respond? How do we respond?
a. Most of the time, you don't.
b. Notice what Nehemiah doesn't do. He doesn't respond, he doesn't answer, and he doesn't defend.
c. Your response isn't going to convert your critics. You don’t need to.
d. Ignore them and keep on doing His work.

PRAY AND WORK!
Pray like everything depends on God and work like everything depends on you. Craig Groschel
Nehemiah was both spiritual and practical.
Some people need to be a little less practical, and a little more spiritual, and some people who need to be a little less of one, and a little more of the other.
We are all spiritual and all practical.

Tough times are going to come anyway; but when we are growing and stepping forth in the Lord, we are far more equipped to deal with them. David Guzik
