Dig Deeper:
1. Pastor Devin mentioned some well-known enemies, like Batman vs. Joker. What are some other well-known enemies you are familiar with.
2. This week we’re looking at the “Enemy Playbook.” Do you believe you have a relationship with the enemies in your life? Why or why not?
3. Read Romans 12:17. Define “evil.” What happens when someone repays evil for evil?
4. What kind of thought are we to give in doing what is honorable? Why is that important?
5. Read Romans 12:18. Is it always possible to live at peace with everyone at all times?
6. Read Matthew 18:15-20. Is this what you witness in your day to day in how people deal with conflict? Why or why not?
7. Read Romans 12:19. What is this verse not saying? What is it saying? How is avenging ourselves different than God avenging us?
8. How is trusting God with your hurt different than being indifferent about your hurt?
9. Why is trusting God difficult at times, even though we know He is good and perfect?
10. Read Romans 12:20. What might it look like to provide food and drink to your enemy?
11. Read Matthew 5:43-47. As a Christian, why should our response to hurt be different? How does this reflect Jesus to others?
12. What causes us to stay hurt? What allows us to be set free from that hurt?
13. Read Romans 12:21. Have you seen this lived out in your life? Describe what you experienced or witnessed.
14. Who ultimately “wins” when we conquer evil with evil? Who ultimately “wins” when we conquer evil with good?
15. How does forgiveness foster freedom?
16. Reread question two. Does your answer change or stay the same? Discuss.

Live It Out:

1. I can let go of my hurt, because I trust God with it. Do you trust God with your hurt and need for revenge? You can let go of your hurt because you can entrust it to Him. If you haven’t done this before, spend time figuring out why. Spend time with God, asking to trust Him and giving Him your hurt.
2. Forgiveness fosters freedom. The best way to leave a lasting impression on your enemy, and also on yourself, is to love them like Jesus loves. Returning hurt leads to bondage while giving it up to God fosters freedom. What hurt have you been holding on to? What can you do this week to release that hurt in order to be free?
