Oakwood Church’s mission statement:
to join God in His work of transforming people and communities through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
John 5:19-20
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
Three Truths to Believe:

1. Understand Jesus’ Strategy

2. Believe Jesus was Human

3. Follow His Example
Three Truths to Believe

1.Understand Jesus’ Strategy

“The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”
John 5:19
John 13:12-14
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
Three Truths to Believe

2. Believe Jesus was Human

“I have set you and example that you should do as I have done for you.”
John 13:15
Philippians 2:5-8
You must have the same attitude
that Christ Jesus had.
(v.6) Though he was God,
• he did not think of equality with God
• as something to cling to. (v.7) Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
• he took the humble position of a slave
• and was born as a human being.
• When he appeared in human form, (v.8) he humbled himself in obedience to God
• and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Three Truths to Believe

2. Believe Jesus was Human

“He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.”
Philippians 2:7
1 John 4:1-4
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
John 14:12
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
• He is entering an area of brokenness because He saw God’s heart for the broken and followed Him there
John 5:2-3
Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.
He’s asking the Father questions and listening to His voice and hearing truths about people. He’s confirming what God is doing by asking questions.
John 5:6
When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
• He’s stepping forward in faith and believing God for healing
John 5:8-9
Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed and walked.
• He’s delivering the messages that God gave Him
John 5:14
Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
How to Follow the Example of Jesus:
1. Go
2. Ask
3. Believe
4. Share
John 5:15
The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
Some great questions to ask your Dad:

• How do you want me to love this person?

• What are you saying to me?

• What do you want me to do?

• Who do you want me to love today?
Say. Obey. Share.

1. Say: Father, what are you saying to me?

2. Obey: Father, what do you want me to do or obey?

3. Share: Father, Who do you want me to love
John 5:20
For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
John 15:15
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 12:26
If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
