The Book of Comfort (Isaiah 40-55)
In Isaiah 41, Isaiah says, “Behold” twice, regarding idols.
“The human heart is an idol-factory”
- Martin Luther

An “Idol” is anything you look to for that which only God can give.

An idol is usually a “good thing” which we make into an “ultimate thing”
"In the day-to day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship.
And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god … to worship … is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive.
If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough. It’s the truth.
Worship your body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally plant you.
Worship power, and you will end up feeling weak and afraid, and you will need ever more power over others to numb you to your own fear.
Worship your intellect and being seen as smart, and you will end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out."
- David Foster Wallace
Two kinds of justice:
1) Rectifying Justice
2) Primary Justice
Messiah means "anointed one"
“Bruised” (Isaiah 42:3) is the Hebrew word Ratsats, which also translated as: “crushed” and “discouraged”
The Hebrew word for Justice = "Mishpat"
Isaiah 7:14 - it says that this promised Savior would be born through a miraculous birth: he would be born of a virgin! (Show Isaiah 7:14)In Isaiah ch 9 — we are told that this Savior, would not only be a human person, but that he would actually be DIVINE: he would be God himself, come to Earth — to rule as KING over the whole world, forever! (Reference — Isaiah 9:6-7)
And then — in Isaiah 11, we are told that the Spirit of the Lord would be upon this person in order to EMPOWER him to carry out his mission! (Isaiah 11:2)
Isaiah 42:6-7 is quoted in Luke 1 & 2 in reference to Jesus.
“In short, the Servant will undo all the horrendous and degrading effects sin has had on the human race.”

Genesis 3:15 = the "protoevangelion" (the First Gospel)
