Discipline the Dos that GO towards the Goal.
To go the DISTANCE, you need PERSISTENCE.

2 Peter 1:3–11
1. Do you have a PLAN? You need a PLAN.
“…train yourself to be godly” (1 Tim 4:7b).
“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training” (1 Cor 9:25).
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).
2. Do you know your PRIORITIES? You need to PRIORITIZE.
“Be diligent in these matters” (1 Tim 4:15)
“Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Tim 4:16).
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles… (Hebrews 12:1).

1. Take a time inventory.
a. 168 hours = Week
b. 49–56 hours = Sleep/Week
c. 40–50 hours = Work/Week
d. 62 hours = Left/Week

2. Block your time.
a. What Must I Do (with my time)?
b. What Should I Do (with my extra time)?
c. What Could I do (if I had any time left over)?

3. Leverage idle time.
4. Be mean about your time: Learn to say NO!
a. To time fillers
b. To time stealers
c. To time killers

When you know what your priorities are, you will know what your sacrifices must be.
3. Do you show up with POWER? You need to show up with POWER.
“… we labor and strive… (1 Tim 4:10)
“Be diligent in these matters, give yourself wholly to them (1 Tim 4:15)
“…make every effort…” (Hebrews 4:11; 12:14; 2 Peter 1:5,10)
“Run in such a way as to get the prize. . . . Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body…” (1 Cor 9:24)

Paul went all in on his training so that he could be all that Jesus wanted him to be.
- “We have much to say about this, but it’s hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand” (Hebrews 5:11).
- “We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end…. We do not want you to become lazy…” (Hebrews 6:11–12).
- “We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end…. We do not want you to become lazy…” (Hebrews 6:11–12).
You might be lazy if:
- You make excuses why you can’t do something (Prov 26:13)
- You lay around all day [doing nothing productive] (Prov 26:14)
- You are ludicrously lethargic in the most basic of tasks (Prov 26:15)
- You think you’ve arrived (Prov 26:16)

4. Do you see PROGRESS? You need to chart your PROGRESS.
“…so that everyone will see your progress (1 Tim 4:15)
“…add to your faith… for if you possess these qualities in increasing measure (2 Peter 1:5, 8)

- Apply those truths in the area you want to progress in
- Receive honest assessments and feedback from those around you

5. Do you have the right PERSPECTIVE? You need to keep a certain PERSPECTIVE.
“Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Tim 4:16).
“Make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:10–11).
