1. Singleness is a gift to use for God's purposes
“The charisma (gift) of singleness is a Spirit-enabled freedom to serve the King and the kingdom wholeheartedly, without undue distraction for the longings of sexual intimacy, marriage, and family.”
- Barry Danylak
- Barry Danylak
Singleness secures an undistracted and undivided devotion to God.
Honoring God as a single includes celibacy.
2. Marriage is a gift of oneness for the glory of God
Marriage was designed by God and reflects His love for us in Jesus Christ.
Whether single or married, we are to honor God in our relationships.

Dig Deeper:
1. Based on what we’ve discussed so far in this series, why are relationships difficult for us?
2. What challenges might a person face who is single? What about someone who is married?
3. Read 1 Corinthians 7:7-8. Do you see these values and priorities reflected in today’s culture? Explain.
4. Based on what we know about the Church of Corinth, how does our culture face some of the same issues?
5. How are being single and being married both a gift from God?
6. Why is it difficult to think of something that can be challenging being a gift from God?
7. Read 1 Corinthians 7:32-34. How can being single be an advantage to serving the Lord?
8. Why does the “grass always look greener” when viewing someone else’s life? What is the root of comparison?
9. What does our culture value? What does God value?
10. If you are single, what perspective change can you take to align yourself with God’s Word?
11. Who is the creator of marriage? Why is knowing that important in how you approach marriage?
12. How is romance defined by our culture? How is romance defined by marriage as a covenant relationship?
13. Discuss how marriage reflects God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.
14. If you are married, what perspective change can you take to align yourself with God’s Word?
15. Read Ephesians 5:33. If someone is married, how does that person fight for their relationship? How does our culture complicate or distract us from this?
16. Whatever your current relationship status, what would you say is the biggest motivator for why you’re married or not married? How does this impact your relationships with God and others?
17. Is there a specific step you can take to serve the Lord more intentionally than you are now? Or is there a step you can take to honor God in a current relationship? Share with others what you’ll do and when you’ll do it.
Live It Out:
1. If you are single, do you see your singleness as a gift from God? In your singleness, focus solely upon God’s mission for your life. If you desire marriage, ask God to help you become the person He wants you to be as you serve Him and pray for your future spouse.
2. If you are married, do you see your marriage as a gift from God? In your marriage, focus on dating your spouse. Husbands, remember to reflect the love of Christ and to lead. Wives, show loving respect to your husband for the glory of God. Make time for each other and say “no” to good things so you can say “yes” to God’s best.
