North Platte Berean Church

Above Reproach

Above Reproach

The apostle Paul was prolific in planting churches in areas where the Gospel was previously unheard and one such place was the island of Crete off the coast of Greece. As a hub with many harbors and great reach into the ancient world, Paul strategically launched a network of churches on Crete. The churches, however, were quickly in danger from false teachers distorting the purity and simplicity of the Gospel - salvation through Christ alone by faith alone. Paul, therefore, assigns Titus to build up these churches by appointing elders who can rebuke those swayed by this false gospel and teach truth. He spends much of the letter explaining how believers in Christ comprise a new household and even a new humanity through their faith in Christ alone. As we study Titus, we’ll see how authentic faith must inevitably make a difference in our practice of godliness. And when we fail, we have a wonderful Savior who has brought us into his house – into a new way of living – the true Good Life!

Baptisms Today

As an outward expression that they have received the gift of the Gospel - displaying their old, sinful identity has died and they are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), the following people will be baptized today.

Becky Blagdon will be baptized at the 9:15 hour by her friends and fellow disciples, Barbi Carsten and Kelli Harper.

Emily Bucholz will be baptized at the 9:15 hour by her husband Steven Bucholz who will himself be baptized in the North Platte River just after third gathering concludes. Steven will be baptized by his father, Steve Bucholz. Join us on 9/10 and you'll have the opportunity to hear how the Lord has drawn Steven and Emily to himself!

Will Rathjen will be baptized at the 11:00 hour by his stepdad, Jared Childears.

Treasuring God: What is God showing me about himself?

Being Transformed: How is God challenging me to grow? What is my next step in this?

Loving Others: Who do I have opportunity to live out these truths with this week?

Pursuing Unity: How can we take a step in this area, to unite us more closely together?

Next Week's Sermon

We'll take a one-week break from our Good Life series to spend this day contemplating Fasting and Prayer as we anticipate engaging in 24 hours of fasting and prayer from 6p on 10/6 until 6p on 10/7. We'll hear Jesus' words on fasting and understand his call to all of us who follow him. Join us as we prepare our hearts and minds to seek the Lord in unity through fasting and prayer!
