Psalms Greatest Hits

The Psalms are the Bible's guide to worship. They guide us through normal times, times of despair and times of deep joy. They help us understand how our emotions relate to God.

In the hopes that we will learn how to worship God throughout our days, this sermon series will highlight five classic Psalms.

The Text in Context

"To try to comment on (Psalm 8) is kind of like commenting on the splendor of the Grand Canyon. Words really can’t do it justice. You just need to..." Click link to read more.

SERMON OUTLINE:

I. Awe

II. The Stars

III. What are humans?

IV. Dominion

V. God
NEXT STEPS:

Cultivate a sense of awe.

1. Think of the things that make you deep respect mixed with fear or wonder.

2. Reflect on those things.

3. Reflect on the fact that whatever it is that makes you feel awe, God created it.

4. Reflect on the fact that this is the same God who loves you, specifically and individually.

5. Reflect on the fact that this same God loves all of humanity, specifically and individually.

6. Pray that this sense of awe would affect how you interact with the world God created.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. What causes you to feel awe?

2. How does Psalm 8 emphasize the theme of the majesty and glory of God? What specific verses or imagery convey this idea, and what impact does it have on the reader's perception of God's greatness?

3. In Psalm 8, the psalmist reflects on the significance of humanity's place in creation. What does the psalm teach about the relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world? How can this perspective influence your understanding or your relationship with God? How does this perspective influence your sense of stewardship of God's creation?

4. Psalm 8 praises God for creating humankind "a little lower than God" and crowning them with glory and honor. What does this say about the inherent value and purpose of human life? How can this perspective impact our attitudes towards self-worth and the dignity of others?

6. The psalmist begins and ends Psalm 8 by expressing awe and wonder at God. How does this sense of awe impact the way the psalmist approaches life's challenges and uncertainties? How can we cultivate a similar sense of awe in our own lives?
