Dig Deeper:
1. Have you ever played a team sport, or something that involved using a playbook? Why was the playbook necessary? What did it provide to the team?
2. Have you ever learned more about your ancestry? If so, what did you learn?
3. Why is learning about our past, and looking at the original playbook in Genesis, important in understanding our future?
4. Read Genesis 1:27. What is the importance of God creating man in His own image? What is the difference between humans and all other living things?
5. Read Genesis 2:16-17. Why did God allow the opportunity for sin in the Garden of Eden? Why did he give Adam (and Eve) the ability to make a choice?
6. Read Genesis 2:18. Was Adam alone? What does it mean to for God to “make a helper corresponding to him”?
7. Read Genesis 2:19-25. How is an “ezer” or “helper-companion” a good description for Eve? Is the way in which she is created significant to this?
8. Read Genesis 3:1-5. Discuss how Satan twists God’s truth, both in the passage and in other ways. Discuss ways in which we ignore God’s truth in our everyday lives.
9. Why is reading and understanding God’s Word so important when it comes to Satan’s lies?
10. Read Genesis 3:6. Describe the reasons why Eve ate the fruit and gave some to Adam.
11. Read Genesis 3:7-8. Why does Satan like when we isolate and hide? How does it hinder our relationship with both God and others?
12. What do people commonly do to “cover” their shame?
13. Read Genesis 3:9-10. Why is beginning verse 9 with the word “so” important? What does God say in the passage? What does Adam say?
14. Is God surprised by what Adam and Eve did?
15. Read Genesis 3:11-13. Have you ever played the “blame game”? How did it turn out? How does pride play a role in blaming others?
16. How does our culture help us shift the blame for our decisions elsewhere?
17. Read Genesis 3:21. How does God show compassion to Adam and Eve?
18. Read Romans 5:17. How does God show compassion to us all?
Live It Out:
What is God’s playbook for my family and my relationships? The greatest thing you can do for your relationships is to ask Jesus Christ to lead it!
Do you have uncertainty of how to move forward in a particular relationship? Are you living in a cycle of brokenness or have a family tree that is filled with brokenness? God’s grace can break the cycle of sin and replace it with His grace. This week, ask God to renew your love for others, especially in relationships that are hurting and broken. Through prayer, and time in God’s Word, ask Him to produce healing through the gospel playbook of His forgiveness - healing and forgiveness that only He can provide through Jesus Christ.
Reading Plan:
Monday: Genesis 2:1-14
Tuesday: Genesis 2:15-25
Wednesday: Genesis 3:1-13
Thursday: Genesis 3:14-24
Friday: Romans 5:1-11
Saturday: Romans 5:12-21
