Dig Deeper:
1. Are you familiar with Psalm 23? If so, describe how you’ve used this prayer in the past or where you’ve seen or heard it shared.
2. Have you ever been around sheep? What was your experience like?
3. Have you ever met a shepherd? What characteristics and qualities would a shepherd need to care for sheep?
4. Is your peace of mind or sense of security ever threatened? If so, how?
5. Read Psalm 23:1. How does David describe God and his relationship with Him?
6. The heart of Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Describe when your personal relationship began with Jesus.
7. Reflect back on Psalm 139 from last week. How does this help us understand more deeply how God knows us?
8. Read Psalm 23:2. What is the significance of a shepherd letting his sheep rest in a green meadow? What is the shepherd providing at this time? Discuss the same for when a shepherd leads his sheep besides quiet waters. How does God provide us these things as well?
9. Read Psalm 23:3. How would a shepherd renew a sheep’s strength? How does God renew our strength?
10. Why does God lead us along the right paths? How does He do this? What motivates God to guide His people?
11. Read Psalm 23:4. Reflect back on verses 1-3. Why is David able to be comforted even when walking through the darkest valley?
12. Read Psalm 23:5. What does it mean for God to prepare a table in the presence of enemies? What peace has God offered to you during a dark valley?
13. In what way has God made your cup overflow?
14. Read Psalm 23:6. What does it mean for goodness and faithful love to pursue you? What is David declaring in this passage?
15. Are you currently resting in God, despite your circumstances? Why or why not?
16. What did you learn about prayer through this psalm?
17. Has anything from this discussion, or time in the Word, made you view God differently than you’ve have previously? If so, how?
18. How would you summarize the psalm?
Live It Out:
Jesus is our Good Shepherd who lays down His life to bring us back home. When you have Jesus as your Shepherd, you have all you need.
1. What can you do to celebrate God’s goodness and provision? Read Psalm 23 this week, verse by verse. From each verse, write down all that God provides for you, specifically, in relation to the verse. Allow each verse to change your perspective of any challenging circumstances in your life. Respond in celebrating Him this week through praise, worship, and prayer.
2. Who in your life needs comfort and encouragement? We all face trials and have fears and anxieties. Think of a person in your life who is going through a difficult time. How can you share and show the love of Jesus to them this week? If someone you know is like a sheep who is wandering and apart from their Good Shepherd, share with that person what it’s like to be walking with Him.
Reading Plan:
Monday: Psalm 23
Tuesday: Psalm 100
Wednesday: Matthew 6:25-34
Thursday: John 10:1-10
Friday: John 10:11-21
Saturday: John 10:22-30
