Caution - Work In Progress
Biblical sanctification describes how believers, by God's power, are continuously being improved upon, made holy, and set apart for God's sacred purposes in the world. In worship this weekend and throughout the following week, we'll celebrate the good news that all of us are a "work in progress" and explore how we might live from within this newfound identity.

The Text In Context, Part 1

This is The Gospel Coalition's verse by verse commentary of Philippians. Earmarked at Chapter 1:6, its introduction to Philippians is valuable as well.

The Text In Context, Part 2

"[Philippians 1:9-11]... presents a fine balance between head and heart. Biblical Christianity means loving God and others fervently, from the heart; but also, such love is in line with God’s truth as revealed in His Word. Love for God and others that is not based on truth is just..." Click link to read more.

1. What is happening to me? I am...

I am a work in progress.

2. What is happening to me? God is growing me in...

God is growing me in love.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, 1966

"God is growing me... God is growing you... God is growing us, in our capacity to love."

Agape Love

Unlike the one word in the English language, in the original Greek that the New Testament was written in, there are multiple words for love. Better understand the type of love prescribed in this week's scripture by reading the attached article.

Why is this happening to me?...

For God's glory.
NEXT STEPS:

1. Memorize Philippians 1:6, "…being confident of this, that God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

2. Celebrate those areas in your life and in the lives of others, where you can see God at work in wonderful ways. Additionally, exercise patience and forgiveness with yourself and others where you feel it isn’t happening quick enough.

3) Prayerfully consider how your habits and lifestyle are being positively transformed for God’s glory.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. In Philippians 1:6, Paul writes, "... being confident of this, that God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." What does this verse teach us about God's faithfulness and God's commitment to our growth and transformation?

2. Philippians 1:9-11 says, "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God." How can we cultivate a love that abounds more and more, and what role does knowledge and discernment play in this process?

3. According to Philippians 1:10, the purpose of growing in love is to "discern what is best". What does it mean to discern what is best in our lives, and how can we make choices that align with God's best?

4. Philippians 1:11 speaks of being "filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ." What does it mean to be filled with the fruit of righteousness and can we actively participate in producing this fruit in our lives?

5. The ultimate goal of our growth and transformation, as mentioned in Philippians 1:11, is for the glory and praise of God. How does living a life filled with the fruit of righteousness bring glory and praise to God, and what impact does it have on our witness to others?
