when we see the word “therefore” ask ourselves “What is it there for?”
“We should always be growing. If you are not growing, you are dying.
“Now that you have tasted that the Lord is good”.
Why would we go back to the bad stuff when we know the Lord is good?

Jesus is the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him.
Jesus was and is the living Stone and the Chief Cornerstone, we are also living stones and represent Him and point people back to Him, our firm foundation, and our true salvation!
What do we do now with what we know and how do we live now in light of what Jesus has done for us?

•1. Submit to human authorities – for the Lord’s sake. - V.13
as long as the human authorities aren’t asking you to do what is unlawful or that goes against what God says.
We must obey God rather than human authority! - Acts 5:29
•2. Obey God’s will by doing good! - V. 15
When you do good you silence the talk of ignorant people!
•3. Live as Free people but as servants to God. - v.16
Don’t use your freedom to do evil!
“Peter’s counsel sounds like Jesus’ in Matthew 5:16: If your actions are above reproach, even hostile people will end up praising God. Peter’s readers were scattered among unbelievers who were inclined to believe and spread vicious lies about Christians. Gracious, godly, and winsome behavior on the part of Christians could show these rumors to be false and could even win some of the unsaved critics to the Lord. Don’t write off people because they misunderstand Christianity; instead, show them Christ by your life. The day may come when those who criticize you will praise God with you.” – Life Application Study Bible Notes
•4. Show respect to everyone, love the church, fear God, honor those in authority. – v 17
•5. Submit to those in authority over you even in suffering – v.18-21
“Many Christians in Peter’s day were household servants. It would be easy for them to submit to masters who were gentle and kind, but Peter encouraged loyalty and perseverance even in the face of unjust treatment. In our context, we should follow this principle by submitting to our employers, whether they are considerate or harsh. By so doing, we may win them to Christ by our good example. Paul gave similar advice (see Ephesians 6:5-9; Colossians 3:22-25), as did Jesus (Matthew 5:46; Luke 6:32-36).” – Life Application Study Bible Notes
Jesus was the perfect example in His suffering He did not retaliate or threaten them, but He entrusted the judgment of His wrongful treatment to God as should we.
