Reflection Questions
1. Have you ever heard this passage of Scripture or topic taught on before? What stood out to you?
2a. Read 2 Kings 2:1-8. Throughout this passage, Elijah tells Elisha to stay back, and let him go alone. Elisha is also bombarded by people, who tell him that Elijah will be taken up into Heaven soon. Despite all of this, Elisha is determined to keep going with Elijah. How determined are you to follow Jesus, no matter what circumstances are around you?
2b. Looking at your answers above, how has your walk of faith in Jesus changed over different seasons of your life? How have you had to be determined to follow Jesus?
3a. Read 2 Kings 2:9-12. When Elijah asks Elisha what he can do for him before he goes, Elisha asks for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. What do you think of Elisha’s request? If you were in that situation that Elisha was in, what would you have asked for? What does that tell you about yourself?
3b. It is clear that Elisha prioritizes God’s Kingdom above his own. How well do you prioritize God’s Kingdom above your own? What in your life can change so that you can accomplish that better?
4a. Read 2 Kings 2:15-18. The sons of the prophets felt a need to go search for Elijah. Evidently they didn’t believe, even though Elisha told them, that God had actually taken him up to Heaven and that they wouldn’t find Elijah. The sons of the prophets had a difficult time understanding How God operated. Have you ever had a difficult time understanding how or why God did something?
4b. Because the men refused to listen to Elisha, they wasted their time searching for Elijah. Have you ever wasted your time or energy because you refused to believe God?
5. What is your biggest take away about how this passage affects your life? What do you need to work on? Who can you share this with and ask you to keep you accountable to accomplishing this?
