Romans 7:15-25

How can it be that we know what to do and don't do it?
1) Passively waiting on God to magically change us.
2) Are not fully leveraging the power of habit given to us by God.

Our habits have a power. A Duke study showed that 40% of what we do each day is habit.

You life is designed to get the results you are getting. Edward Deming
You reap what you sow. Galatians 6:7

What if we are sowing for results that we do not want? The soul may be saved but the old patterns of living are dealt, often, not overnight but as we live into grace. Remember, grace is not opposed to effort, just earning.

Habit Pattern
CUE - CRAVING - ROUTINE - REWARD

Harvard study released in 1994 shows two reasons people change radically habits.
1) Tragic events – hitting rock bottom
2) Community

Keystone Habits for Christians:
1) Daily Devotions of prayer, Scripture and meditation.
2) Regular giving of a portion of your income.
3) Participation in a small group/Sunday school.

Words of Caution when beginning a habit:
1) There will be pushback!
2) It takes longer than 21 days that gets advertised.
3) You will be successful; and you will not be successful. When you are successful don't think "I've done it" when you slip up don't thing "I've failed!"

Paul says, "Who will help us?" And then answers, "Jesus Christ our Lord". For he has given us a ready made system of help in habits and a community in which to practice/change them!
