The Names of God

Elohim - “The Sovereign, All powerful One, or Mighty Creator”.

Yahweh or YHWH – I AM that I AM – Jehovah (Yehovah) or LORD

Adonai - Lord & Master

El Shaddai – God Almighty, The All Sufficient One

Jehovah Jireh – The Lord will Provide.

Jehovah Rapha – Jehovah Heals or Jehovah is my Healer.

Jehovah Rohi – The Lord is my Shepherd.

Abba Father – The Lord is my Daddy.

The Name that is above all names – Jesus – Yeshua.

Jesus’ Name is mentioned 1251 times in the New Testament, and I counted 177 different Names, titles, and attributes of His Name. 58 of those were in the 4 Gospels and 31 in Revelation!

During this message, I want us to answer 4 questions:

•Who does God say Jesus is?
•Who does Jesus say He is?
•Who do others say Jesus is?
•The most important question is the final question – Who do you say Jesus is?

God told Joseph, through the Angel of the Lord, to name His son Jesus which means "the Lord God Saves".

Jesus was with God in the beginning. He also is God. Our first Name of God was Elohim which is the plural form of God the Creator showing the Trinity was together at Creation – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus is the Word of God. He is the 2nd part of the Trinity of God.

Jesus is the visible manifestation of God.

Jesus was with God in the beginning and through Jesus, all things were made.

The Word – Jesus – became flesh – that means the Creator became His own creation. He put on skin and bones and even was a baby in Mary’s womb and was born the same way His creation is born – through a woman. He was born to live and die for us.

•Who did God say Jesus was?

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit were all present at Jesus’ Baptism and God declared Jesus is His Son.

Who does Jesus say He is?

I want to make it abundantly clear that you can’t read the Word of God and ever mistake Who Jesus claimed to be or Who He was and is!

Jesus was very clear Who He was!

•Who do others say Jesus was?

Peter believed, 10 other disciples believed, the women at the tomb believed, those who encountered Jesus on the road to Emmaus believed, and after the resurrection Jesus’ brothers believed and followed as did countless others.

What is more important though is Who do you say Jesus is?

Jesus is the Name given to the One and Only Son of God the Father that came from Heaven to Earth to become His own creation to make a way for men and women to have a relationship with the Father and to live eternally with Him.

11 different titles and attributes are ascribed to Jesus in this passage.

4 in verse 5 – Christ (Anointed One-Messiah), the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

7 in verse 8 [8] “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord (Kyrios) God (Theos), “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Jesus is the Name above Names!
