To compromise is to accept something you believe is wrong because you lack the courage and love to confront it.
Eli failed because he tolerated evil and was passive before it.
Christians who don’t know God’s power can only offer acceptance, but not deliverance.
Samuel overcame because he knew God’s power and was faithful to stand for God’s righteousness.
I Samuel 9:1a-2
Now there was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel…He had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and handsome man, and there was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel; from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people.
II Corinthians 5:7
“…for we walk by faith, not by sight…”

II Corinthians 4:18
“…while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
Because of pride, Saul never came to know a strength greater than his own.
Saul failed because his pride kept him from depending on God and therefore he was weak.
Psalm 16:8 I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my [b]rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge…
David succeeded because he sought God, trusted God and walked by faith.
I Samuel. 18:1a, 3-4
Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David…Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. 4 Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword and his bow and his belt.
Jonathan fell short because of pressures from lesser loyalties and expectations of others.
Luke 2:34, 35b
Behold this child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel and as a sign to be opposed…to the end that many hearts may be revealed.
