Book of James background:
Who was James - he was the half brother of Jesus, and the leader of the Jerusalem church. He didn't trust Jesus until after His resurrection.
What is the main theme - It is mainly focused on Christian living and our day to day life. It was written to encourage believers to live godly lives.
A. We do what we do because we have misdirected desires

The desires we have in life become easily misdirected and they aren't
always bad desires.

Our hearts become consumed by those desires and we begin to lust after
them

We do what we do because we want what we want and that becomes all
consuming.
B. What do we do when we are consumed with these desires?
2. What should be our primary desire?
A. We must first understand that we are all worshippers and we will either desire God or desire the worldly things.
B. We were all made to worship God.
C. The correct desire should be for us as Christians to love Him, delight in Him and His Word, glorify Him, obey/please Him.
D. When we are humbling ourselves before God and desiring/worshipping God then our acting, speaking, and thinking will be honoring to God.
3. What is the solution to our wrong desires?
A. James tells us we must submit/humble ourselves to God
B. We are only able to draw near to God when we have trusted in Christ

1. What is my situation?

2. How am I responding? How am I reacting?

3. What do I want? What do I believe will satisfy me?

4. What does God say in His word about my situation and my responses?

5. What should I desire? What do I know about where satisfaction
truly resides?

6. What should I do now?
