We continue today the series called Finding Jesus in the Old Testament. We cannot understand who Jesus is without seeing him in the Old Testament. During this series, we will focus on five specific ways we see Jesus in the Old Testament and how this relates to our lives.
Today we focus on How Jesus saves us as our Passover Lamb.

The story of the Bible is a story of Redemption. God chooses to redeem Israel from a particular family, the family of Abraham. This family grows in to the nation of Israel. This nation comes slaves in Egypt and cries out for a deliverer. God provides Moses as their deliverer.
Because Pharaohs' heart is hard and won't let God's people go, God sends judgements in the form of plagues. Each plague gets worse and the final plague is the death of the first born. This was going to apply to all people except the Israelites who were given specific instructions which they followed. The took a perfect lamb, killed it at the appointed time, and applied the blood to the door posts to their house. They stayed inside when the angel of death came and the Lord 'passed over' them.
The result of this final plague was the death of the first born of Egypt. This enabled the people of Israel to be free. They were to observe this day as a last ordinance.
How does this show us who Jesus is?
Jesus is our passover lamb. John the Baptist said, "Look, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." The parallels are stunning.
The passover lamb was to be a male with no defects, no broken bones, to die in place of someone at a specific time with the blood applied to the doorposts which allowed them to be saved.
Jesus was a male with no defects (sinless), had no broken bones, died in our place at a specific time (3pm on passover), with his blood allowing those who believe in him to be saved. The difference is the high priest had to do this sacrifice every year. Jesus' sacrifice was once for all to bring us to God.
Application
We cannot save ourselves, only Christ can save us. Allow Christ to be not only your savior for afterlife but life today.
