North Platte Berean Church

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit

As evangelical Christians in western Nebraska in 2023, it's easy to get tunnel vision and forget that we’re part of a MUCH bigger story. A story that has included many Christians in many parts of the world over the course of centuries. The Apostles’ Creed is a helpful reminder of the common confession we all share – the essentials of knowing and following Jesus. Like the moon, it has no light of its own, but it reflects the light of the Scriptures it’s based on. Join in as we let the Apostles’ Creed point us back to God’s Word, giving us a well-rounded understanding of the faith and a deeply-rooted sense of our place in the community of believers throughout history.

Kathy Huebner Appreciation Opportunity

Thank you to those of you who have already shared expressions of gratitude to Kathy for her time on staff at Berean. As we conclude our effort to collect your stories and turn toward compiling them, we wanted to remind you one more time of this opportunity to express appreciation for Kathy's influence in your life. We'd love to have all submissions to Lorre McKeone by this Thursday (5/11).

Here's how you can participate:

1. Write a short note sharing how Kathy has impacted your life, a few words of appreciation, what you're praying for her, etc.

2. If possible, include a picture of yourself (just you, or you with Kathy).

3. Email your note and picture to Lorre McKeone at lorremckeone@npberean.org (Lorre will be compiling these memories into a book that we can then present to Kathy, when the time is right).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Becky Hasenauer at the church office (308-532-7448). We hope this will be a meaningful if small way for us to honor the many contributions Kathy has made to our church family and our community over the years of her ministry here.

Dan Smith's Sabbatical

According to our staff sabbatical policy, all full-time staff, after 6 years of continuous service to Berean, may request up to 3 months of sabbatical leave.

Dan started in June 2013, so he has eclipsed the 6 years by a long while! Therefore, he'll be on sabbatical from June 19 through September 10. For more details, click the link below.

This Week's Sermon: The Holy Spirit
The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended to the dead.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the living and dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Talk It Over

Visit npberean.org/grow-groups to find a group, start a group, or get more resources.

What was one thing from this week’s sermon that impacted/challenged me?

Treasuring God: What is God showing me about himself?

Being Transformed: How is God challenging me to grow? What is my next step in this?

Loving Others: Who do I have opportunity to live out these truths with this week?

Pursuing Unity: How can we take a step in this area, to unite us more closely together?

Next Week's Sermon

Growing up I recall my mom telling us that for Mother's Day she wanted her kids to get along with one another. Seemed like a dumb present at the time, but it really resonates in me now that I have my own kids. And my mom's wish was actually a reflection of God's heart. He wants his children (who have been made holy by Christ) to live in unity with one another. That's why we declare "I believe in the holy, catholic (meaning universal), church."
