The Chosen Bible Study

We belong to the family of God because Jesus invites us, making the Bible and all its promises as true for us today as it was for God’s chosen nation. Once we belong to Him, we’re not only given a new identity, we’re ushered into a new reality. One that is sure, powerful, and life-changing.

Each week this group will watch an episode from the series “The Chosen” and use the study guide “What Does It Mean to Be Chosen?” to connect participants to the Bible in a brand-new way.

This study includes:
A deeper look at Isaiah 43 and its fulfillment in Jesus and the lives of His followers (including us!)
Script excerpts, quotes, and illustrations from the show
Guiding questions for groups or individuals

Being chosen by Jesus has beautiful and far-reaching implications—although it says even more about the Chooser than the choosees! We are loved because He is love. We are saved because He is merciful. We belong to the family of God because Jesus invites us, making the Bible and all its promises as true for us today as it was for God’s chosen people.

What does it actually mean to be Chosen? To answer that question, we’re going Old school—Testament that is—which leads us back to the New. Which always leads us directly to Jesus!

Iron Men - Stories Jesus Told

Everyone loves a good story. Whether it’s a novel, film, or song, we are products of the narratives that have formed us—for good or bad. If you need fresh inspiration or are stuck living under the weight of a story you can’t shake off, consider this study of the parables of Jesus.

Through six sessions, you’ll hear directly from Jesus through the Word. His parables not only form (or reform) who we are, they reveal more about God than we ever thought possible. They provide the hope we’re looking for, speaking above all the other noise we may be experiencing.
Session topics:
1. Why Parables?
2. The Parable of the Soils
3. The Parables of Lost Things
4. The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds
5. The Parable of the Prodigal Son
6. The Parable of the Talents

From its very beginning, the Church of Jesus has struggled: oppression, identity, purpose, and various theological perspectives.

In short, the Church has always struggled to look and be like Jesus. But what if the struggle isn't [or didn't have to be] the end of the story?

1 Peter is an ancient letter that continues to inspire and shape modern churches. It gives us a glimpse of an early church’s struggles, while also providing practical encouragement and a framework for our day and age.

As Royal Redeemer comes to the end of a ministry year this Spring, join us for a six-week exploration of this letter. Together let’s seek God’s wisdom for fulfilling the mission of Living Out the Love of the King.

1 Peter 1:17-25

Acts 2:14, Acts 2:36-41

Luke 24:13-35

The fact that Peter calls them "scattered exiles" might seem to imply that he was writing to Jewish Christians who were scattered and dispersed from Judea due to persecution. But 1 Peter shows that the readers were actually Gentiles who were living in Asia Minor who had become Christians. So, they were scattered exiles in a figurative sense rather than a literal sense. Peter was writing to Christians who were exiled in their own land, out of sync with the culture and world in which they lived. In that sense, we may be more like them than we might at first think.
To answer our question, "What is that Imperishable Seed?" - 1 Peter 23 tells us it is the Word of God. And "Why does that Imperishable Seed give us hope?" Our text tells us the Word of God gives us hope by assuring us of 4 things: 1. God, through Christ, is fair in His judgement, 2. Our salvation is imperishable, 3. The Family of God is worth loving, and provides an oasis in the world, and 4. The Word of the Lord endures forever.
So, Peter's Ancient Letter meant to encourage the Christians who were exiles in their own land, also encourages us today. The takeaway from Peter's message is this: When we feel like exiles in our own land, and out of sync with our culture and world in which we live, STAY IN THE WORD!
