1. What is baptism?
Baptism is about identifying with Jesus:
Immersion = Death
Submersion = Burial
Emergence = Resurrection

Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4 CSB)

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision.
Baptism isn’t necessary to be saved; it’s a privilege for the saved.

2. Why get baptized?
a) Because Jesus did

o In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.” (Mark 1:9-11 CSB)

b) Because Jesus said to
o Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20 CSB)

c) To share OUR story and THE story
o “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before others, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33 CSB)

Everyone who follows Jesus should get baptized as a RESPONSE to Jesus's baptism
