Read out loud: Luke 24:13-35,
6 ways to connect more deeply with the Bible: (YOU MAY WANT TO SPEND 2 WEEKS ON THIS STUDY BECAUSE OF ALL THE SCRIPTURE TO READ)
#1. Realize Jewish holidays are celebrating Jesus. The two main Jewish holidays are Passover and Yom Kippur. Read Exodus 12:21-42 because it is the recounting of the first Passover. What kinds of theological or ethical questions does this bring up? The battle is over are these Israelites Egypt’s slaves or God’s people, and does God have a right to free them without recompense to Egypt? How would God have treated Egypt if Pharoah would have cooperated with God’s plan?
Read Leviticus 16:1-22 because it is God’s instructions for Yom Kippur. How does it differ from Passover and what is the main emphasis?

#2. Remember Messianic titles are identifying Jesus.
Read Isaiah 9:6-7 because it gives us 4 of the Messiah’s names and His job description. How do the 4 names not only tell us Jesus is the Messiah but describe Him as totally God and fully human at the same time? What are the main characteristics of His job?

#3. Read Old Testament prophecies as predicting Jesus.
Read Micah 5:2-3. Bethlehem is the birthplace of King David, how do we know that this prophecy isn’t just describing a human king like David?

#4. Interpret Christophonies as being Jesus.
Read Judges 13. Pay close attention to how the author describes the Angel of the Lord, God or the Lord and what He identifies His name as, and also how the Angel accepts worship! How do we know this is more than just an angel?

#5. Understand literary types as describing Jesus.
Read Romans 5:12-21. How does Paul compare Jesus with Adam? Notice the words, “type,” and “gift.” Why does Paul use those words?

#6. Watch personal biographies that are lived greater by Jesus.
Read Genesis 22:1-19. What did this story teach Abraham’s culture about child sacrifice? God spares Abraham’s son but does not spare His own son from dying on the cross. What other contrasts and comparisons are in this story?

Family Time: Read the passage in Judges 13 and explain how the Angel is Jesus before He was born. Keep an open chair at a meal for Jesus and talk about what you would like to say or ask Jesus if He were there!
