Ephesians 2:1-10
Ephesians 2:1-10
A. No, God: A Christ-less Life
1. A life with worldly values and identity
Me at the center vs. God at the center.
2. A life under the dictate of a prince.
Frustrate God vs. Glorify God
3. A life of disobedience
My own way vs. the Holy Spirit's way
4. A life under the mercy of desire (flesh)
Living in my flesh vs. Living in the Spirit
5. A life deserving of God's wrath
The wrath of God vs. The reward of God
B. Yes, God: A Christ-full Life
1. A life made alive
2. A life raised up to the heavenly realm
3. A life filled with riches
4. A life of faith through grace
a. 4 reasons salvation is a gift of God's rather than the works of man.
1) Man cannot make God owe him.
2) Man cannot make God love him.
3) Man cannot heal God’s heart.
4) Man cannot save himself or set himself free.
2) Man cannot make God love him.
3) Man cannot heal God’s heart.
4) Man cannot save himself or set himself free.
b. Jesus Christ is the gift!
5. A life of being a handyperson
C. But, God, How Me?
1. Evidence of a Christ-less life
“But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results: impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms, the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group—and there will be wrong doctrine, envy, murder, drunkenness, wild parties, and all that sort of thing. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5:19-21 (TLB)

2. Evidence of a Christ-full life
“But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws.
Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to His cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit’s power, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Then we won’t need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings.”
Galatians 22-26 (TLB)

Bottom Line: We are saved for good works, not by good works.
