Shame: A soul defeating and soul crushing plague in your life
Genesis 2:25
Adam and his wife were both naked and they felt no shame. NIV
Romans 3:23
All all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. NIV
Adam and Eve hid from God (Genesis 3:8)
You feel guilty for what you did. You feel ashamed for who you are
“Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging – something we’ve experienced, done, or failed to do makes us unworthy of connection.” - Brene Brown
The devil attempts to connect your behavior to who you are and how you see yourself
Shame-based thinking: We are vulnerable to perfectionism
Shame-based thinking: We are critical of ourself causing us to be critical of others
Shame-based thinking: We are susceptible to self-defeating that shield us from disappointment
As long as you focus on you, you will always be vulnerable to shame
The Israelites were out of slavery, but slavery wasn't out of them
To heal from shame: Turn to the resurrected Jesus by shifting your focus from what you are not, to who Christ is
Hebrews 12:2
For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. NIV
Jesus despised the shame that robs you from intimacy with God and the joy of heaven.
The stone was rolled away (Matthew 28:2)
Matthew 28:6
He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. NLT
To heal from shame: Turn to the resurrected Jesus by shifting your focus from who you are, to who Christ is
