John 20:11-18
John 20:11-18
A. Mary's Great Realization
1. Mary realized Jesus was gone.
2. Mary realized she was not alone.
B. The Great Recognition
1. Mary did not recognize Jesus.
2. Mary recognized Jesus as the gardener.
3. Mary finally recognized Jesus by the way He said her name.
4. Mary was told to go, so others would be prepared to recognize Jesus.
“No need to hang on so tightly. I am, indeed, in the process of returning to my Father, but have not yet ended my appearances to you and the others. Tell them of this ‘journey’ of mine, which will allow them to see me yet again.” Joseph Dongell
C. Our Great Responsibility
1. We are responsible to have faith in this true story.
2. We are responsible to believe in Jesus' transformative Word.
3. We are responsible to go and tell the world of this transformative story.
We can be confident in the resurrection.
1. The burial of Jesus was public and secured.
“Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.” John 19:38
“‘Sir,’ they said, ‘we remember that while He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ Matthew 27:63
2. The evidence is convincing
a. It was predicted that His side would be pierced (Zechariah 12:10, fulfilled John 19:34), His heart broken (Psalms 22:14 fulfilled John 19:34), His bones left unbroken (Psalms 34:20, fulfilled John 19:33) and that He would be buried in a rich man's tomb (Isaiah 53:9, fulfilled Matthew 27:45). These are just a few of over 300 Old Testament predictions that Jesus fulfilled.

b. He appeared to over 500 witnesses.
c. All of His disciples and apostles were willing to die over this truth.
3. His body has never been found.

Bottom Line: Christianity is not just knowing about Jesus, but it means knowing Jesus.
