Introduction
Luke 19:28-44 NASB
28 After Jesus said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

29 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mountain that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples,

30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here.

Jesus, the humble King.

Zechariah 9:9
New American Standard Bible
9 Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
He is righteous and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
36 Now as He was going, they were spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen,
Jesus, the conquering King.

39 And yet some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!”

Beware of the spiritually dead critics.

40 Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these stop speaking, the stones will cry out!”
Jesus, the worthy King.
41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, “If you had known on this day, even you, the conditions for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you when your enemies will put up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
The spiritually blind.
3 questions:

1.Is Jesus my King?

2.Is my worship conditional?

3. Do I weep over the spiritually blind?

Prayer Requests:

Group Discussion: Do you like to watch Parades? Which is your favorite?

Read aloud: Luke 19 28-44

Jesus is the humble King. Jesus’ road in on a donkey to fulfill the prophecy from Zachariah 9:9 and as a display of humility. Why is the humility of Jesus important? Read Matt. 20:28. How is Jesus different from other Kings? What role does service play in your life?

Jesus is the conquering King. The crowd expected Jesus to conquer Rome but instead he conquered death. Have you had unmet expectations of Jesus? How do you reconcile this? Do we worship Jesus for what he has already done or for what he is going to do? Do you think about Jesus return as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings? Why does he delay in his return?

Jesus the worthy King. Jesus’ spoke and said even the rocks will cry out. Why does Luke include this statement? Jesus up to this point has told people to keep his identity a secret and now He is affirming the claims of his Kingship. Why did Jesus wait until this moment to enter as a King, and affirm the worship of Him as a King? Read John 4:23. What does it mean to worship in spirit and in truth?

Jesus weeps over the spiritually blind. Who are we weeping over? When is the last time you were moved with compassion? Do you see emotions as weakness? Why or why not?

Family Time: Imagine for a moment with your family that Jesus was coming to downtown Visalia. The whole city would be throwing a parade for Him. How would you show your appreciation and adoration? Now think for a moment how we can show our appreciation and adoration for Jesus right now.
