Tetelestai - Paid in full, complete, finished
1. Jesus finished His suffering
2. Jesus finished Satan
3. Jesus finished our promised salvation
Religion is spelled: Do.
The gospel is spelled: Done.
What are you holding onto that Jesus has already paid for?

Dig Deeper:
1. As we wrap up this series, and look ahead to Easter, discuss what has been your biggest takeaway so far while looking at Jesus’s final words.
2. Tell a personal story about a long project (e.g., a home renovation or a research project) that you worked on for months or years. How grueling was the task? What kept you going? How did it feel to finally have it completed?
3. Tetelestai (Greek for “it is finished”) was written on bills that were paid in full in the 1st century. How are the words “it is finished” related to our sin debt being “paid in full”?
4. Read Isaiah 53:3. How did Jesus suffer even before He was on the cross? What is the significance of Jesus understanding what suffering feels like?
5. Read Psalm 69:19-21. Jesus’s thirst yet again fulfills prophecy. Why would Jesus be thirsty in this moment?
6. Read 1 John 3:8 and Colossians 2:14. How did Jesus defeat Satan on the cross once and for all, even though we are living in a fallen world where evil still exists?
7. How does Satan ultimately have no authority in the life of a follower of Jesus?
8. Read John 10:17-18. Jesus “gave up his spirit”. It was not taken away from him; He gave it up. What does it mean that Jesus willing laid down his life in this moment?
9. Read Ephesians 2:8-9. Jesus paid for our sin once and for all as the perfect Lamb of God. How does performance and religion play a part in what Jesus did for us?
10. Knowing that we rest in the finished work of Jesus, how then can we respond to Him?
11. How is religion different than the gospel of Jesus Christ?
12. What is the difference between Jesus saying “It is finished,” instead of “I am finished”?
13. Ultimately, what did Jesus accomplish?

Live It Out:

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (CSB)

Are you resting in the finished work of Jesus Christ? What are you holding onto that Jesus already paid for? God is doing a work in each of us, and He always finishes what He starts. Today, discover the areas of your life where you are not finding rest. Pray to God, and give that burden to Him, in order to find life-giving rest. Ask Him to continue doing a work in you.

Who in your life needs the life changing love of Jesus Christ? Who needs to hear about what Jesus did, and what He finished once and for all? Today, pray for them, invest in them, and invite them to join you next week at Easter.
