Elijah had approximately 7 recorded miracles and Elisha had approximately 15!
Elijah and John the Baptist had many similarities:
•Both preached repentance when Israel had turned from God
(1 Kings 18:21 / Matthew 3:1-2)
•They both were known by their appearance and wearing animal hair for clothing. (2 Kings 1:7-8 / Matthew 3:4)
•They were both fed from the wildlife of the desert – Elijah by the ravens (1 Kings 17:2-3 / John from locusts and wild honey (Matthew 3:4)
•They were both preached against false religion and false leaders (2 Kings 1:16) / (Matthew 3:7)
•They both preached against evil Kings – (1 Kings 18:18 / Matthew 14:3-4)
•They both had wicked queens that wanted to kill them – Elijah with Jezebel (1 Kings 19:2) / John with Herodias – (Matthew 14:8,11)
•They both suffered depression and doubt – (1 Kings 19:4) / (Matthew 11:2-3)
10 Interesting Similarities between Elisha and Jesus
1.Elisha means ‘God is Salvation’ / Jesus means ‘Yahweh will save’
2.Both of their ministries began at the Jordan River where they both succeeded the prophet, Elijah.
*Elisha succeeded Elijah at the Jordan when Elijah was taken up in a chariot of fire to Heaven.
(2 Kings 2:7-14)
*Jesus was baptized at the Jordan by John the Baptist (the spirit of Elijah) and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus like a dove and God spoke and said, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:13-17)
3.Both raised a woman’s adult son from the dead.
*Elisha raised the son of the Shunammite woman from the dead. (2 Kings 4:7-9)
*Jesus raised the widow’s son from Nain (Luke 7:11-17)
4.They both fed large numbers with a small amount of food.
*Elisha fed 100 men with a few barley loaves and there is food left over. (2 Kings 4:42-43)
*Jesus fed 5000 and 4000 with a few fish and loaves and there were basketfuls left over. (Matt 14:13-21, 15:29-39)
5.They both turned a small amount of liquid into an abundance.
*Elisha turned a widow’s small jar of olive oil into many jars of oil to provide for her debts and family. (2 Kings 4:1-7)
*Jesus turned the water into the best wine at a wedding – His first recorded miracle. (John 2:1-11)
6.They both healed lepers.
*Elisha healed Naaman. (2 Kings 5)
*Jesus healed many lepers. (Matthew 8, Luke 17)
7.They both made things float that should sink.
*Elisha made an axe head float. (2 Kings 6)
*Jesus walked on water and led Peter to do the same. (Matthew 14)
8.They are both betrayed by one close to them for money.
*Elisha is betrayed by his servant Gehazi.

*Jesus is betrayed by one of His disciples, Judas. (Matt 26)
9.They both give sight to the blind.
*Elisha blinded his enemies then restored their sight. (2 Kings 6)

Jesus was placed into a tomb but was raised to life by God on the 3rd day!
Elisha’s bones brought one man back to life, but Jesus’s death burial, and resurrection is still bringing the dead to life today!
