In this parable, Jesus describes lost people as a lost/prodigal son. In each parable, He reinforces the idea that one soul, one life, literally, every person matters to God. If they matter to God, they should matter to us.
Prodigals aren’t evil, but they are rebellious and lost. A prodigal represents a person who has known the love of a father but has wasted their substance in rebellious living.
Our world & churches are filled with prodigal sons/daughters who have chosen their way over God’s path.
The shepherd goes after the lost sheep. The woman searches for the lost coin, but a father waits/intercedes for the prodigals to come home. Jesus loves the prodigal, and He models intercessory prayer.
We pursue prodigals through prayer; we stand in the gap interceding on their behalf, crying out for mercy.
