2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Joshua 11:23 (ESV)
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.
Joshua 13:1-7 (ESV)
1 Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to possess. 2 This is the land that yet remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites 3 (from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northward to the boundary of Ekron, it is counted as Canaanite; there are five rulers of the Philistines, those of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of the Avvim, 4 in the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the boundary of the Amorites, 5 and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath, 6 all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I myself will drive them out from before the people of Israel. Only allot the land to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. 7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”
Genesis 15 - Abraham would have offspring (15:4), descendants (15:5), a land (15:6).
Joshua 13:15 – Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of Reuben
Joshua 13:24 - Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of Gad
Joshua 13:29 - Moses gave an inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh
Joshua 13:33 – There is no inheritance for Levi
Genesis 48:20 - “The people of Israel will use your names when they give a blessing. They will say, ‘May God make you as prosperous as Ephraim and Manasseh.’”

Genesis 49:10 - “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor.”
Our God is in the business of keeping His promises.
Joshua 13:13 – The people of Israel could not drive out…
15:63 – Judah could not drive out…
16:10 – They did not drive out…
17:12-13 – Manasseh did not drive them out…

Judges 1:21 – Benjamin did not drive out...
2:27 – Manasseh did not drive out…
2:29 – Ephraim did not drive out…
2:30 – Zebulun did not drive out…
2:32 – Asher did not drive out…

Judges 2:1-3
1 Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
Israel forgets God and sins -> Israel is judged -> Israel cries out to God -> God sends a judge deliver Israel -> Israel turns back to God -> Israel experiences peace -> Israel forgets God and the cycle repeats.
Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 5:20. We’re ambassadors for Christ. So go make disciples. Go to the ends of the earth. Show them how they can have a relationship with God. Teach them how to obey Jesus’ teachings. Baptize them. Repeat over and over and don’t ever stop.
Ephesians 2:10, Matthew 5:16. God made you for good works. Go and do them and let the world see them and glorify our heavenly Father.
Colossians 3:15, Galatians 5. Put sinful desires to death. That’s how you used to live. But you are not that person anymore. Now you live by the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:8-16. Have unity. Always be zealous (go crazy!) about doing what is good and righteous. Be able to give an answer for the hope you have and the way you live.
2 Peter 1:3-11
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
When I know who I am in Christ, I pursue what belongs to me in Christ.
Discussion Questions

1. How do you tend to approach seemingly boring or insignificant passages of Scripture (like details about diving up the land among the tribes, genealogies, etc.)?

2. What truths and attributes of God do you observe in this narrative?

3. How does Israel receiving the promised land foreshadow our inheritance in Christ? What is similar? What is different?

4. Complacency leads to compromise. Why is it easy to become comfortable and complacent in our faith? What's at risk if we do?

5. How does obedience connect with rest and peace?

6. How should we think of our inheritance under the New Covenant (1 Peter 1:3-9)?
