Jesus Messiah
As evangelical Christians in western Nebraska in 2023, it's easy to get tunnel vision and forget that we’re part of a MUCH bigger story. A story that has included many Christians in many parts of the world over the course of centuries. The Apostles’ Creed is a helpful reminder of the common confession we all share – the essentials of knowing and following Jesus. Like the moon, it has no light of its own, but it reflects the light of the Scriptures it’s based on. Join in as we let the Apostles’ Creed point us back to God’s Word, giving us a well-rounded understanding of the faith and a deeply-rooted sense of our place in the community of believers throughout history.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;

suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended to the dead.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the living and dead.

the holy catholic* Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality - that the person has passed from death to life by trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. On Sunday 4/2, we will baptize Chase Dodson by Scott Mathis (friend) and Bruce Dodson (dad).

Next Week's Sermon
As we celebrate next week before Easter, we'll consider how Jesus "suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried." Pilate is such an interesting figure, and the interplay between him and Christ really begs the question, "Who is in charge?" Pilate, with all the power of Rome might seem to be, but Jesus, with all authority from the Father, actually is. Yet though Jesus has the true power, he willingly suffers under Pilate. And in doing so, he claims some mighty victories that can refresh our hearts and help us live well for Christ.
