· We should not chase after signs.

1. What might it have been about the angel’s greeting that caused Gideon to doubt the message?
2. What questions did Gideon ask the angel? And what were the responses? Do these questions remind you of the questions of another Old Testament character?
3. Considering Gideon’s current posture what made the angel’s statement unbelievable?
4. How did Gideon respond to the angel’s description of him as a “might hero”?

JOURNAL
Have you ever noticed spiritual apathy in your life? If so, what do you think has been the cause?
As a believer, what expectations do you have about how God reveals Himself? How might those expectations prevent you from encountering God?
Can a misunderstanding of spiritual identity hamper spiritual growth in the life of a believer?
Why might it be important for a believer to understand their identity before moving forward into God’s calling?

MEMORY VERSE:
1 Corinthians 1:28
“God chose things despised by the world, things counted as
nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
ACTIVITY:
Have everyone write on a card one thing that they seem to struggle with. Place all of the cards upside down in the center of the table. Take turns choosing a card to read out loud. Have everyone in the circle share ways in which that fear might be conquered.
