“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
How can I have a thriving relationship with God?
Our relationship with God will thrive if we never stop pursuing personal growth.
Spiritual growth in the expectation.
Sanctification: A progressive work of God and man that makes us more and more free from sin and more like Christ in our actual lives. The process of becoming more like Jesus.
Spiritual growth is a life-long pursuit.
A threat to spiritual growth is complacency.
“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” Philippians 3:7-
9
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” Matthew 4:17
“Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
“Go now and leave your life of sin.” John 8:11

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
Our relationship with God will thrive when we contribute, not merely consume.
“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. … Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. … If the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you!’ … Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:12, 14, 16-21, 27
In order for us to accomplish our mission of pointing people to life in Jesus, we need everyone to contribute.
There is a threat to the health of our relationship with God when we primarily consume or rarely contribute.
