Do you ever feel like you are all alone and no one understands what you are going through?

How do we operate after God shows up in an amazing way. Do we continue to praise Him, or do we forget quickly what He just did and start operating according to the flesh again?
How do we handle fear and depression? What usually causes us to go to those places?

How do we hear from God and how does He speak to us?

1 Kings 19:1-4

Why do we so quickly lose faith in God when He consistently shows us His will, His way, His provision, and His protection?

“I have had enough, Lord…take my life”

“Often discouragement sets in after great spiritual experiences, especially those requiring physical effort or involving great emotion. To lead him out of depression, God first let Elijah rest and eat.” – LASB Study Notes

We need rest and replenishment! God, Himself rested on the 7th Day. God’s 4th Commandment was to rest and to keep the Sabbath holy. Jesus, God’s One and Only Son, rested and went away to quiet places often!

We are prideful and arrogant to think we don’t need the rest God commanded us to get.

We can either choose to rest or God will make us rest – usually in a way we don’t want.

1 Kings 19:5-18

This was the 3rd time God fed Elijah. The first was by the ravens, the second through a widow, and now the third time through an angel.

The Lord God is Jehovah Jireh which means “The Lord Provides”

He provided for Elijah, and He will provide for you too if you simply trust and follow Him!

7 steps Elijah went through.
1.We need to rest
2.Replenish our nourishment (food & water)
3.Receive the encouragement that God sends you
4.Get up and get going after your rest (don’t dwell in the despair)
5.Seek God (do whatever it takes to get close to Him)
6.Listen for His Voice (be patient and don’t let the loud distractions of the world drown out God’s still small voice
7.Do what God has told you to do - Follow Him, His Will & Way

The first journey was motivated by Fear. He was afraid and acting in his own strength. The second journey was motivated by Faith. He operated in strength from the Lord!

That’s really what we all want isn’t it – just to know that God loves us, that we aren’t alone, and everything is going to be ok.

Too many times we look for God in huge events or in loud things screaming at us when He is found in humble hearts and quiet places.

The world and Satan scream their lies at us. We are always hearing so many competing voices through ads, social media, tv, radio, politics, and the news.

God will not try to compete with the voices that try to yell the loudest for our attention. He wants us to seek after Him with all of our heart and to get patiently quiet to hear from Him through His gentle whisper, His Word and His Holy Spirit.

“To look for God only in something big may be to miss Him because He is often found gently whispering in the quietness of a humbled heart. Are you listening for God? Step back from the noise and activity of your busy life and listen humbly and quietly for His guidance. It may come when you least expect it.” - LASB Notes

“When you are tempted to think that you are the only one remaining faithful to a task, remember that you are not alone. God is always with you, and He is faithful to provide coworkers to join you in following Him. Don’t give in to self-pity; it will only dilute the good you are doing. Be assured that even if you don’t know who they are, others are faithfully obeying God and fulfilling their duties.” – LASB Notes

Even when you feel like you are all alone you aren’t. God is with you and will never forsake you and there are always others going through similar things that we don’t even know about.

Remember the 7 things Elijah went through when he was tired and discouraged. Make sure we get rest, nourishment, seek God, and listen to encouragement.

The Lord God is Jehovah Jireh – our Provider – He will Provide.

We need to get alone, seek God, get rid of the loud distractions, and listen for God’s Gentle Whisper!
